Our Vision
We envision a Rhode Island where all faith communities come together to build understanding and work for peace and justice.
About Us

Who We Are

We are lay people, ministers, chaplains, and priests. We consist of 12 Protestant denominations; six affiliated church organizations; and eight Orthodox denominations and congregations.  We have over 100,000 members in 300 congregations. We collaborate with 75 civic and human service agencies, and are affiliated with the National Council of Churches and World Council of Churches.

Our vision is for a Rhode Island in which all faith communities come together to build understanding and work for peace and justice. As a Council we advocate for social justice; provide resources and programs to our members and to the Rhode Island community as a whole; serve as a center for ecumenical and interfaith dialog and action;  provide moral and ethical leadership in our state; and work to enhance our God-given unity.

The following are some of our ministries:

  • We organize the state-wide faith-based shelter network; lead the state’s heating assistance task force; and provide home buyer education for low-income families.
  • We give leadership in times of crisis such as in the aftermath of the Station Nightclub fire.
  • We provide chaplains at state prison facilities and operate a mentoring program for offenders and ex-offender.
  • We advocate for economic and social justice for all races and faiths, especially for the homeless and the disadvantaged.
  • We promote dialogue among Christians and all the major faith groups in the state.

WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
