Council files brief in support of Birthright Citizenship

The Rhode Island State Council of Churches, along with communities of faith across the nation, has filed a brief of amici curiae in Trump v. Barbara, a case challenging efforts by the Trump administration to end birthright citizenship in the United States.

As an organization committed to love-based action in the world, we reject fear-based narratives that dehumanize, oppress, or otherwise destroy our common humanity. Birthright citizenship reaffirms not only our faith-based commitments, but also our belief in a democracy that maintains our longstanding commitment to welcoming the stranger.
