Marta Martínez

Marta V. Martínez, PhD, is the founder of Rhode Island Latino Arts (RILA). She is a community oral historian, author of Nuestra Raíces: Latino History of Rhode Island, and a public historian. In 2025, Marta was inducted into the Rhode Island Journalism Hall of Fame, being the first Latina to receive this recognition. Marta is of Mexican heritage, refers to herself as a Chicana, and has made Rhode Island her home since 1988.
